Reader’s Question:

I would like to know how I could get an Sr22 insurance form?

In order for the insurance provider to have the SR-22 form filed for you you’d have to buy the required insurance coverages by the state from an insurance company that files SR22 forms with the appropriate state department for its policyholders.

Therefore you don’t get the SR22 form yourself til you have purchased the insurance coverages you’re required to by the state. The SR-22 form is something that the insurer provides and can file for you after you have bought the insurance coverage required of you by the state. Policyholders may also get the form from an insurance company where they can bring to the license office. In some cases, it could be downloaded on the internet or sent by mail. Some companies offer instant SR-22s, while other want it to be filed before sending it to you.

In case you are instructed to file a SR-22, you then should get hold of your liability insurance broker and tell them of the required filing with your state. The form should be filed by an insurer licensed through your state’s insurance regulatory body generally.

In case you are not able to locate an insurance company that will file the SR-22 for you then seek advice from your state’s insurance regulator who will be able to inform you where to locate an insurance company locally that you could buy the required insurance from and file the SR-22 form for you.

Reader’s Question:

What should be expected if I were caught driving without insurance? Will the state require me to carry SR22 insurance for this instance? Thanks!

What else? Expect heavy fines for driving without insurance as you would pose as a risk for endangering yourself and common motorists. It is considered as violation of state laws since the state mandates every citizen to carry minimum liability insurance before he/she can drive.

Usually, penalty for driving without insurance vary from state to state. Some impose heavy fines, some not. You could also expect holding and impounding of your vehicle, your vehicle tag seized, and your license suspended. Also, it is definite that the state will require you to carry SR22 insurance since you are unable to show them financial responsibility. Usually, they will require you to carry this insurance for a period of not less than three years. It is also needed in order to retain validity of your license.

Worse come to worst if you were caught driving without insurance and have been involved in an accident. You could face jail time and would also be exposing yourself to both legal and financial constraints–the burden of paying damages and injuries out of your own pocket. To avoid the hassle of going through this, it would be wise to get yourself insured.
